The task is simple:
I am giving away U$1000.00 (one thousand dollars) to the first person who can prove me that a human being named Jesus (the one that appears in the Bible, helping the people, and who was betrayed and crucified) actually existed. AS LONG NO ONE PROVES IT HERE, IT MEANS FOR ME THAT JESUS NEVER EXISTED!
I'm not talking about proving me if he was the son of God or not, or if he was capable of performing miracles, but just proving me that in the history of mankind there was this man, and that it was not a work of fiction or a folkloric tale.
If it happens that an answer actually makes sense, it will be sent to be scientifically analyzed.
It should be easy money according to some.
But do not fool yourself, proofs must be consistent, and debates are encouraged.

I would love for you to put that $400 of your money towards buying the books that document all of the thousands of manuscripts that document the historiocity of Jesus. Even better, ask him yourself... because if he rose from the dead, he can hear you asking him. Go ahead, give it a try.
Leave your money in your pocket. If someone is just after it, they might try to lead you astray. If you want proof, it's everywhere. Look to Josephus...look to the Jewish writers themselves who were so very dedicated to truth that if there was any doubt that what they wrote wasn't fully truth, it was left out...look to the Bible which is the best preserved, with the most and earliest copies of any ancient writings....

Anyway, where are them? Were they really written during the supposed time Jesus was alive?
I just asked Jesus if he existed, but no one replied, and no one in this room heard anything... so, academically speaking, I does not prove anything.

The Bible can not be used, as it would be the same as trying to prove the existence of "Polia" with "Hypnerotomachia Poliphili".

Before you mention Josephus, you should probably know the references to Jesus are spurious additions. Plus, Josephus wasn't even born until 7 years after Jesus supposedly died, so his writings cannot pass as contemporary, objective accounts anyway.
Will you give us $400 if we can disprove that he existed :-).

LMAO! This is great! A historical Jesus likely never existed. The very fact that not a single contemporary source wrote about him is the most telling, followed by the fact that the corpus of material on Jesus didn't even come into being until 50 or more years AFTER he supposedly existed. Jesus has all the tell tale signs of being mythological, just like every other god man who ever didn't walk the earth.

Despite the false claims of apologists, there is absolutely NO historical evidnece suggesting that a Jesus figure existed. I debunk all of the dishonest claims on that web page.
However, there are clues in scripture that cause virtally all real historians to believe there was in fact a historical Jesus figure, but he was just VERY VERY VERY insignificant. Things like the crucifiction would not make sense if it was not based on a real person. The dying after 3-6 hours bit for example, death by being hung on a cross takes a couple days. There are cases though of people faking death and being taken down early only to escape their tomb. This is make the bit about him passing out after the spong of viniger being placed to his mouth make more sense.
Anywho, check out my page for all the info. Bottom line, it looks that although Paul invented Jesus, an actual historical person most likely inspired some of the gospel stories.

Josephus, Publius Cornelius Tacitus, Pliny the Elder, Celsus... these are only a few of the authors who mention Jesus.
The reason why no contemporary chronicler wrote anything about Jesus is very simple, it wasn't news.

No, this is not stupid, and no it has not been proven his existence.
Josephus was proven a long time ago that had his passage talking about Jesus forged. If you analyze correctly, not only it is distorted from his patterns of writing, as it makes no sense under any logic that he would have written something like what is claimed!
Furthermore, researchers from the middle age who studied and had performed deep analyzes on Josephus are totally oblivious about him mentioning any biblical Jesus, and these are the people who were able to study his works unaltered!!!
You can check this information with any academic research on Josephus.
About the others, they pretty much only mention a Christ, which was a title... anyone could be a Christ in that matter, and none of them talk about miracles, good deeds, or anything slightly similar.

BTW, I'm a historian. If you think it can't be proven that Jesus of Nazareth existed, just how can you prove that anyone existed? Cna you prove that anyone from that time period existed?

other people from that time have left documents being written by themselves. They have documents written by people who lived with them at the same time, being it allies or foes. They have sculptures created during their lifetime. Artifacts proving their life and death, etc.
Jesus just does not have it.
Now, hope as a historian you are not following the story told by any church or alegoric book as the Bible

let me think a little about this.
I't seems to me that jesus have existed, but i not sure if i heard anyone talking about documents that proove it. I think it`s probably according to history facts that is in Bible and is validated in other documents, for example the existence of the Roman kings.
But still... i have seen more logical theorys that show that he has not existed as you can seen in the book "God Delusion"

I think oyu can considerate the Bible as a historical reference as well. You can see a person who as named Jesus and was so important in that time that people write about him. doesn`t matter if he was god or not, but it seems that he exsited.

What possibility is there truly of any physical evidence over 2000 years after the fact? Even crime scenes in present day don't last more than a few days before they are invalid due to compromising situations.
Given the nature of the society at that time to be word of mouth over written down, it is highly unlikely there would even be a 'true' document that could be used to prove anything from the time in an objective manner. Especially given that most Jews, Romans, etc. thought Jesus was nothing more than a fraud, why would they even attempt to document his existance in scrolls and waste their 'valuable' time and materials? Most contemporaries of that time probably would not have been able to write, let alone preserve material if it had been written down.
The whole concept is unprovable. Either you believe in God or you don't.
